The German company expands its portfolio of seeding products through an acquisition agreement with South African company Equalizer.
In a press release, German soil tillage and seeding equipment manufacturer Lemken announced an agreement to acquire South African company Equalizer, specialising in the production of large precision seed drills with working widths of up to 36 rows and 24 metres.
Equalizer is a company founded in 2000, headquartered in Cape Town and currently employs 180 people who will continue to work at the production facility, which will become, in every sense, a subsidiary of the German company and will be run by the current management. Equalizer products are distributed in South Africa and Australia, the company’s main export market.
In addition to precision seed drills up to 36 rows and seed drills with a working width of up to 24 metres, the Equalizer portfolio also includes seed drills in combination with pneumatic tankers, technologies not found in the Lemken range.
Managing Director Anthony Van Der Ley pointed out that the Equalizer product portfolio is a perfect fit for Lemken, especially in the seed drill segment, and is an important stepping stone for further growth. Lemken’s precision seeding technology is also characterised by excellent synergy, as the Delta-Row technology developed by the German manufacturer can be complemented by Equalizer’s single-row technology.
We see great potential for new products with Lemken joining us and look forward to working together in the future. At the same time, we are proud that this agreement reaffirms the success and hard work of the entire Equalizer team and our local dealers over the past 22 years.
Gideon Schreuder, founder and CEO of Lemken.
