The “battle of the giants” between tractor manufacturers has intensified. Case IH unveiled a new Steiger 715 Quadtrac tractor with up to 778 hp at the Farm Progress Show in the US.

Available only in Quadtrac tracked format, the new 715 is powered by an industry first – the new FPT Cursor 16L TST. Its displacement is 23% larger than that of the Cursor 13L TST from the Quadtrac 645, delivering 778 peak horsepower at 1,900 rpm and a maximum torque of 3,255 Nm at a low 1,400 rpm. High torque availability is provided by a turbocharging system with two intercooling stages. The tanks can store a total of 1,968 litres of diesel, 11% more than the Quadtrac 645.

Recently introduced to the Quadtrac line with the AFS Connect technology package, this transmission also features improved main components. Alongside the revamped transmission, there are also new heavy-duty tracks, which in the case of the 715 are significantly different from the other Quadtrac models. The tracks are 305 mm longer for greater ground coverage, optimal power transfer, increased traction and reduced compaction.

The drive wheels have a diameter of 1,008 mm, compared to 910 mm previously. They have five teeth instead of four to cope with the higher torque and maximise track life.

A new look.

Externally, the new Quadtrac 715 stands out from its peers with its distinctive new bonnet design, which can now be raised by a further 31% to improve access for maintenance. The cab is fully suspended, reducing vibrations and providing increased driver comfort. Also, the noise level inside is now much lower.

The category 5 drawbar is perfectly adapted to the handling capacity of the new tractor. The optional Category 4 three-point hitch, recently introduced on other new Quadtrac models, is capable of lifting up to 10,092 kg and was designed from the outset to match the Quadtrac 715’s capabilities. Auxiliary distributors (up to eight) are powered by a SmartTorque Twin-Flow hydraulic pump.

In Europe, the new Quadtrac 715 AFS Connect will have its European premiere at Agritechnica.

The principle behind the development of the Quadtrac 715 is not simply more power. Our aim was to create a tractor that would meet the needs of the largest farms, to operate machinery at optimum speed, to generate higher work rates and to allow operations to be carried out at the ideal time, even in difficult working conditions, to make the most of short periods of favourable weather.
