Japanese manufacturer Hitachi meets the growing need for emission-free machinery and reinforces its commitment to a sustainable future with the introduction of a 5-ton battery-powered excavator.
In addition to zero emissions, the first Hitachi in this class offers lower noise levels, increased efficiency, exceptional performance in tight spaces and has fewer maintenance requirements and downtime than conventional models.
The new ZX55U-6EB allows exceptional manoeuvrability in tight spaces, inheriting the short turning radius of the diesel-powered ZX55U-6. It also offers equally high levels of performance.
Customers can choose between battery operation, using 39 kWh lithium-ion batteries, and corded operation, which allows the machine to run while charging from a three-phase 400VAC CEE power supply. Using both methods, operators can use the ZX55U-6EB excavator to work productively and continuously throughout the day, while benefiting from the comfortable air-conditioned cab as standard.
Owners can expect reduced maintenance costs and downtime compared to diesel excavators. The status of the electric drive system, including battery level and motor load factor, can be monitored remotely. Low external noise levels (91 dB) allow greater flexibility of working periods. Safety is enhanced by the rear video camera that monitors the safe connection of the power cord during corded operation.
The ZX55U-6EB is the first excavator of its kind produced by Hitachi. And it shares the same concept with the ZE85 8-tonne electric excavator, which was developed by EAC (European Application Center GmbH), a joint venture between Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd and KTEG (Kiesel Technologie Entwicklung GmbH). Further underlining its commitment to providing sustainable solutions, Hitachi plans to expand its battery product range in Europe.
Hitachi is pleased to offer its customers a new battery-powered model capable of working productively and efficiently in small spaces. We are working hard to meet the growing demand for zero-emission machinery and are listening carefully to our customers’ demands for improved safety, increased productivity and reduced life-cycle costs.
