Make and model

Ideally, we should know what we want to do with the machinery before we buy it.

We already know that a bulldozer, possibly with smarter attachments than the common bucket, can do a lot. But from an efficiency point of view, a purpose-built machine will perform better in terms of fuel consumption, time to complete the job and last but not least, it will suffer less depreciation due to wear and tear. Ideally, if you have the budget, you should have a fleet with a variety of machines, specialised for each type of work.

A Second Hand machinery?

If you choose a second hand machine, we recommend that you have a mechanic with you who knows the pitfalls of that model. And before you give the seller a high five, ask for a price quote and check availability for parts that need replacing for optimal machinery operation.

The service provider

After purchasing the machine, the main factor that can ensure low repair costs is the service technician. This man who will work at least 8 hours every day on your new machine must know and want to run the machine correctly, to work under normal conditions, without overloading the machinery (the hydraulics being complicated and expensive to repair, the gearbox and the gliders, too). So, a good service person will save you a lot of expense. Look for one and don’t let him get away!

Fuel and lubricants

The quality of fuel and lubricants, especially in machines with emission-compliant engines, is also very important. The cost of a injection pump or repair, the cost of injectors, capital repairs to the engine or torque transmitting components, can all be avoided by operating the machinery correctly. And although a quality oil is more expensive, the repair costs you avoid are a very good investment.

Filtration and smooth operation

If the machinery works in special conditions, with a lot of dust or noxious substances, then it is recommended to change the air filters more often than the service book requires. If the diesel available is not of good quality, then it is recommended to install an additional filter on the fuel system. If the machinery is working at high temperatures or in situations of sudden temperature variation, then synthetic lubricants will be needed, which give the necessary viscosity for optimal operation.
